For the Jackson Houses & Eastchester Gardens' redevelopment of their hot water system, Buffalo Geothermal partnered with the project team to deliver a high-performance geothermal solution tailored to a large, urban multifamily campus. Given the scale of the development, site conditions, and long-term operational goals, the system was designed to provide efficient heating and domestic hot water while minimizing energy use and emissions.

The geothermal system utilizes a vertical closed-loop field designed to provide domestic hot water for high-density, multifamily residential buildings. The system replaces traditional fossil-fuel based water heating with geothermal heat pumps connected to boreholes drilled 500 feet into bedrock, using the ground as a stable thermal source.

A custom high-capacity heat pump configuration serves each building, delivering consistent hot water temperatures at 140°F while maintaining high efficiency levels. The system incorporates dual compressors, liquid injection technology, and double-walled heat exchangers to meet health code requirements and ensure reliable performance. High-efficiency storage tanks and precision mixing valves allow for rapid hot water delivery while minimizing water and energy waste. The geothermal system supports year-round operation, reduces on-site emissions, and provides long-term energy cost stability for the building owner.
