Redefining Senior Housing
Silver Gardens brings together affordable senior housing, thoughtful design, and leading energy efficiency. Located in Highland, NY, the 57-unit community provides comfortable, accessible homes for residents age 62 and older, including 29 apartments with supportive services. Designed with sustainability at its core, the all-electric development pairs intentional building strategies with a state-of-the-art geothermal system, redefining senior housing as a comfortable, efficient, and resilient home.
Geothermal System
At the heart, Silver Gardens features a geothermal system designed to do it all. The system provides 100% of the building's heating, cooling, and domestic hot water needs, with no fossil fuel or electric backup. Its 60-ton heating and cooling capacity and 10-ton DHW capacity are supported by 15 vertical boreholes, each 400 feet deep.
Inside the building, 61 ducted geothermal heat pumps, four console heat pumps, and two DHW heat pumps deliver efficient year-round comfort. Two Wilo MAXO Stratos ECM pumps circulate the geothermal source water in a lead/standby configuration, using an average of just 7 watts per ton of capacity. The result is a high-performance system that puts efficiency, reliability, and resident comfort at the center of the building's design.
