Geothermal System

View Live System

The geothermal system is a key component to the development's energy efficient design which covers the entire heating, cooling, and domestic hot water needs of the building and it's tenants. The system operates completely without any fossil fuel or electric backup, eliminating any gas lines needed for the building.

The geothermal system capacity was designed for 220 tons for heating and cooling 60 tons for DHW. The building was equipped with 343 ducted GEO Heat Pumps, and 2 DHW Pumps, manufactured by Waterfurnace and Climatemaster.

For domestic hot water needs, Wilo MAXO Stratos 3x3-52 ECM were used, set up in Lead-Standby configuration to consume an average of 12 watts per Ton of Capacity. In combination with these components, a novel approach was used including liquid injection technology and a hot water heating strategy that brought 40°F water to 140°F in a single pass through. Hot water is directly sent to the building and access is stored into storage tanks. This method of DHW has demonstrated COPs of approximately 4-5, allowing the building to rely on the system for the entirety of it's DHW needs at a high energy efficiency.
